With windy conditions and the threat of rain, the Bulldogs of St. Anthony traveled to Pana for a varsity soccer match Saturday.

The Bulldogs started the scoring when Benton Hakman took a pass from Frank Jansen deep in the penalty box and nailed it into the net at the far post.

"Our passing was solid and quick and that led to two more goals," said St. Anthony coach Scott Demers. "The fourth goal was the result of great defense and quick transitions. Jonas Amberg intercepted a pass in the Pana midfield area and quickly transitioned the ball past Pana defenders and blasted the ball past a waiting Pana goalkeeper."

Following their fourth goal, the Bulldogs were able to get some players into varsity action that usually don't see much playing time.

"Jackson Willenborg, Mason Thomas, Andy Saba, Ty Kinkelaar were all solid in their play," said Demers.

The game MVP was Benton Hakman. Goals were by Hakman with two and two assists, Donovan Hammer one goal, Amberg one goal and Jansen two goals and three assists. Zach Tegeler had nine saves.

Pana had 13 shots, 11 on goal and two off. Matt Gatons had two unassisted goals for the Panthers and Pana had 19 saves.

St. Anthony's record is 8-3-3. The Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday at Lovington High School vs. Arthur-Lovington.
