Charleston, Olney Win Titles at Red & Gold Soccer Invitational

CHARLESTON -- Charleston High School captured the championship of the Red & Gold Soccer Invitational Red Pool Saturday while Olney was the winner in the Gold Pool.

Charleston edged Mattoon 1-0 to win the championship. Teutopolis downed Effingham 2-01 in the Red Pool. Scoring for T-town was Kyle Blievernicht with 17:15 in the second half and again at 8:07 in the second half. In the Gold Pool, Olney was the champion blanking Champaign Central JV 5-0. Centralia downed Decatur MacArthur 3-2.

In junior varsity play, Charleston won the Red Pool with a 1-0 victory over Mattoon. Effingham and Teutopolis played to a 2-2 tie.

In the Gold Pool, junior varsity, Danville edged Olney 2-1 while Urbana won over Centralia 4-0.

Named to the All-Tournament Team from  Effingham for varsity were Tyler Katz, junior, forward; Dalton Steele, senior, defender and Andrew Bingham, sophomore, defender. On the junior varsity team were Vicente Olmos, junior, forward; Synne Christiansen, junior, forward and Brady Scott, sophomore, defender

Named from Teutopolis were Seth Belford, senior, goalkeeper; Justin Deters, junior, midfielder and Kyle Blievernicht, senior, midfielder. On the junior varsity team were Trevor Lee, sophomore, forward-midfielder; Jordan Wellbaum, sophomore, defender and Noah Blievernicht, sophomore, midfielder.
