Bulldogs, Indians Advance In Soccer Regional

Effingham St. Anthony and Altamont advanced in the Class 1A Altamont Soccer Regional Friday.

The Bulldogs blanked Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 8-0.

"We had a great game and I'm very proud of our seniors," said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes. "Roberto Campos, a sophomore, scored three goals from seven shots on goal. Will  Fearday, a freshman, scored two goals and had one assist. Kevin Canales, a senior, scored one goal and had one assist. Adrian Bustamonte, a sophomore, and Manaye Mossman, a freshman, had a goal each.

"George Scheidemantel, a senior, had two assists, Adam Brandenburger, a senior, had one assist and Pierce Verdeyen, a sophomore, had six saves and a clean sheet."

St. Anthony, seeded seventh, advances to a 4 p.m. meeting Tuesday with No. 2 Newton.

Altamont handed Robinson a 7-2 loss in the second contest. The Indians, seeded sixth, will now meet No. 3 Hillsboro at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The winners of those two contests will play for the championship Friday at 4 p.m.

 

Class 1A Raymond Lincolnwood Regional

Pana handed Vandalia a 6-0 loss in Saturday action.

Pana now advances to meet top-seeded Carlinville at 5 p.m. Wednesday. No. 4 Teutopolis takes on No. 5 Raymond Lincolnwood at 7 p.m.

The winners of those two contests will square off for the championship at 11 a.m. Saturday.
