Effingham St. Anthony trailed Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond by three goals but finally got unwound and went on to capture a 7-5 soccer victory Tuesday.

"We started slow and distracted," said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes. "ALAH scored three goals in the first 20 minutes of the game from defensive and GK's mistakes. After a water break, our team got organized and George Scheidemantel scored on a rebound from a shot by Roberto Campos.

"Two minutes later, George passed the ball to Adrian Bustamonte for his first goal of the game. ALAH scored again but Adrian assisted a ball for Roberto's first goal of the game. We were down 4-3 at the end of the first half.

"After halftime conversation and adjustments, we tied the game at 4-4 in the first six minutes when Roberto passed the ball to Adrian for his second goal. ALAH took the lead after a shot from the right of the field.

"But we came together to finish strong. Roberto scored his second goal on a pass from Manaye Mossman with 11 minutes left. With four minutes remaining, Roberto scored his hat trick after taking the ball in the middle of the field and dribbling up the middle for a solo goal.

"With three minutes left, ALAH conceded a penalty. Joshua Blanchette, who had a great defensive game, stepped up to the spot and took the penalty which was stopped by the goalkeeper, but Josh's quick reaction gave him his first goal of the season and secured our win."

St. Anthony returns to action hosting Harrisburg Saturday at 11 a.m.
