EHS Wins Big; St. A, T-town Fall In Soccer Action

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham High School trounced Taylorville in an Apollo Conference soccer match Saturday, 10-1.

"It was a good game and the first half they held their own," said EHS Coach Weston Peno. "In the second half, we controlled the field and made some smart plays."

Victor Carillo tallied a whopping five goals in the contest. Tucker Moeller finished with a hat trick with three. Bryan Angel and Armando Estrada scored one each.

Brandon Duncan had six saves.

 

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony fell to Decatur St. Teresa in high school soccer competition Saturday, 3-0.

"Wade Lawrence had many opportunities of goals and our defense played well," said St. Anthony Coach Marten Reyes. "Two mistakes led to two goals in the first half and the third goal came in the second half after a blocked shot rebounded to a St. Teresa player to top it in.

"Adam Brandenburger continues to shine in the field as well as our seniors, Wade Lawrence, Luke Swingler and Trey Brummer."

The next game for the Bulldogs is Monday against Vandalia.

 

At Mattoon

Mattoon handed a 7-0 loss to Teutopolis Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes also dropped a junior varsity contest, 3-0.

T-town returns to action Tuesday at Lincoln with a 4:30 p.m. junior varsity start with the varsity playing afterwards.
