U.S. Soccer Federation president Carlos Cordeiro resigned Thursday night after a backlash earlier this week over legal papers in the U.S. national women’s team gender discrimination suit said they had less skill and responsibility than the men’s team.

Cordeiro apologized a night earlier when the women wore their warmup jerseys inside-out in protest to hide the Federation crest before a game against Japan. Cindy Parlow Cone will become the USSF’s first woman president.
