Effingham Regional Soccer Championship Game Moved to Carbondale

There've been many times when, traveling to a post-season game at some remote location, you drive by many venues that could've served as the site. You might've wondered, "why don't they move the game to a site closer to where the two teams are located?"

Effingham recognized that when Carterville and Marion ended up winning semifinal games this week at the Effingham Soccer Regional to reach the championship game Saturday morning. As a result, Saturday's championship game will be played, not in Effingham, but at the Carbondale High School soccer field. 

The decision means about a 10-mile trip for the teams, rather than one of more than 100 miles.

Effingham Activity Director David Woltman said he didn't suppose the game would draw too many local fans, and that the move to Carbondale would make it a lot easier for Marion and Carterville fans to attend.
