St. Anthony Downs Carlyle Tuesday

St. Anthony posted a 7-4 soccer victory Tuesday over Carlyle.

St. Anthony took a 1-0 lead with 27 minutes left in the first half on a goal by senior Braeden Quandt, who was just beginning a big game, assisted by junior Will Swingler. 

The Bulldogs scored again with 10 minutes left, as sophomore Will Lawrence registered the goal assisted by senior Moises Lemus. Then, with seven minutes left, sophomore Luke Swingler scored assisted by junior Reilly Ashton. Luke Swingler scored again with 1:30 left in the half. 

Jack Elder had five saves in the first half. Freshman Joel Buenker took over in goal for the second half.

With 24 minutes left in the second half, Lemus scored assisted by Ashton.

Carlyle then got its offense in gear, scoring three straight goals with 20, 17 and 15 minutes left.

The Bulldogs regrouped, though; Quandt scored his second goal of the day with 14 minutes remaining. Carlyle scored again, though, with five minutes to go. Quandt, though, completed his hat trick with two minutes left, scoring his third goal.

Coach Martin Reyes said Buenker had three saves during his second half of work, saying Buenker "continues to grow in his goal keeping position."

Reyes said Quandt was "our key offensive player of the game", while senior Quinton Milleville "was our key player on defense."
