Altamont Beats EHS, St. A Drops Soccer Match

EHS and Altamont during action Tuesday.

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School opened the soccer season by edging Effingham, 2-1 Tuesday.

Jason Burns scored on a place kick in the first half at the 13 minute mark for the Indians.

Burns came back in the second half to score with 10 minutes on an assist by Noah Klimpel.

Effingham's lone goal came with eight minutes on a shot by Bryan Angel.

Altamont had 11 shots, four on goal. While Effingham had 15 shots, five on goal. Altamont's Quinn Verdeyen had four saves. Effingham had two saves.

The Indians also claimed the junior varsity match, 2-1. The lone score for EHS was by Josh Bowlin.

 

At St. Anthony

St. Anthony played host to Champaign Centennial and fell, 5-0 Tuesday.

"Jack Elder, a junior, was goal keeper in the first half and did very well," said Coach Martin Reyes. "He tried to stop a penalty but Centennial placed the shot well to the left.

"Reilly Ashton, a junior, created great opportunities of goals in the second half and seniors Qunton Milleville and Jacob Blanchette and sophomore Trey Brummer, played crucial roles during the game."
