St. A, T-town to Square Off For Regional Soccer Title, EHS Drops Match

ALTAMONT -- Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis both picked up victories in the Class 1A Altamont Soccer Regional Wednesday evening. Those victories push the pair into a meeting Friday at 5:30 p.m. for the regional championship.

Teutopolis opened with a 2-1 victory over Hillsboro.

St. Anthony then tallied a 3-0 win over Pana. Alex Deters had two goals and Nick Goeckner added the third score.

The Bulldogs will now take on the Wooden Shoes for the right to advance to the Macon Meridian Sectional Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of the Carlinville Regional, either Beardstown or Springfield Lutheran.

In a regional also feeding into the Macon Meridian Sectional, Newton and Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin will be competing for the championship of the Raymond Lincolnwood Regional.

Newton pounded Macon Meridian 9-0 while Springfield SHG downed  Raymond Lincolnwood 3-1. Those two will square off for the regional title Saturday at 11 a.m.

 

At Mahomet

Effingham ran into a buzzsaw Wednesday at Mahomet-Seymour. The host squad sent the Hearts home with an 8-0 loss.

Ethan Boggs had 18 saves for the Hearts.

In the junior varsity contest, Maci Williamson scored a goal for the Hearts.
