EHS Drops Soccer Loss, Altamont Wins

Effingham High School dropped a loss to Apollo Conference opponent Mount Zion 3-1 in soccer competition Thursday.

In the first half, the Hearts took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Cooper Jackson. Mount Zion's John Silva scored with seven minutes to knot the score at 1-1.

In the second half, Mount Zion's David Ejeh scored at the 24 minute mark before teammate Silva scored his second goal with two minutes.

Effingham will celebrate Senior Recognition Night Thursday, October 12. The recognition ceremony for the players will take place after the varsity match which begins at 3:30 p.m., approximately 4:50 p.m.

 

At Olney

Altamont traveled to Olney and claimed a 2-1 victory over the Tigers Thursday.

Sam Mathesius scored with an assist by Kolby Brewer in the first half.

In the second half, Jason Burns tallied the game-winner on an assist from Will Overton.

Altamont had 16 shots, 11 on goal while Olney had 14 shots, eight on goal. Brenyn Abendorth had seven saves.

The Indians are now 4-11-1 on the season.

In junior varsity action, the contest ended in a 1-1 tie. Olney scored in the first half.  In the second half, Isaac Crow scored for the Indians on an assist by Aaron MIller.

Altamont is now 1-5-3.
