Bulldogs Beat Hearts, Altamont Falls to Mattoon

St. Anthony and Effingham battle during a soccer match Tuesday.

Effingham St. Anthony played host to crosstown rival Effingham in soccer competition Tuesday and claimed a 4-0 victory.

Nuxoll and Lawrence scored two goals each for the Bulldogs. Nuxoll scored at the 24 minute mark and at the 12 minute mark. Lawrence scored with 30 minutes on the clock and again with 20 minutes. All four goals came in the first half.

Effingham had three saves in the first half and two in the second half.

Effingham and St. Anthony square off in action Tuesday.

 

At Altamont

Mattoon came calling and handed Altamont a 7-1 loss. The Green Wave scored three goals in the first half.

Altamont came back in the second half with a goal by Sabastian Thompson with an assist by Patrick Tkachuk to pull the Indians within 3-1. But Mattoon came back to knock in four more goals.

Altamont had five shots, three on goal. The Indians had six saves by goalkeeper Brenyme Abendroth.

The Green Wave had 32 shots, 13 on goal and two saves.

In the junior varsity match, Mattoon claimed a 4-0 victory.
