EHS Drops Opener at Red & Gold Soccer Tourney

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School opened competition in the 21st Annual Red & Gold Soccer Invitational Thursday with a loss. The Hearts fell to Monticello 4-1.

Effingham's lone goal came in the first half when Parker Siner connected at the 15 minute mark. Alex Paisley had 12 saves for the Hearts.

Monticello's Noah Hunsel scored in the first half at the 26 minute mark. Luke Rudolph then tallied a goal at the 24th minute. Monticello held a 3-1 lead at the half when Jake Edmonson scored at the 20 minute mark.

Monticello scored its final goal in the second half at the 14th minute when Ethan O'Line found the net.

"Paisley played a great game," said EHS Coach Lee Althoff. "And did an awesome job at goal. He saved a lot of big shots and made the game competitive."

The Hearts won't play today but will meet Newton at 9 a.m. Saturday and then again at 3 p.m. against Olney. Monticello takes on Olney at 9 a.m. and Newton meets Monticello at 3 p.m.

T-town is back in action today at 4 p.m. against Charleston while Mattoon faces Centralia. Charleston meets Mattoon at noon and Teutopolis takes on Centralia at noon Saturday.
