On Saturday morning Effingham St. Anthony High School played host to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran in soccer competition.

"The night before it rained so much that the field looked like a small mud trough, it was bad," said St. Anthony Coach Eric Morales. "As the game started, the sun came out and the humidity rolled in. It took about 10 minutes for both teams to get a grasp of the field and all the mud it had to offer.

"Right away Ryan Kruger, Donovan Hammer, Alex Deters and Moises Lemus connected together on some great pass work finding themselves with a handful of shots on goal only to find them going over the goal. Finally with only 21:40 left on the clock, Wyatt Lawrence finds Kruger down the middle for the first goal of the game.  Two minutes later Donovan connects with Kruger again for his second goal of the game. As we got into our rhythm just a minute and a half later Alex found Ryan for his hat trick of the day putting us up 3-0.

"As we continued to pressure the Stallions before the half, we accumulated 19 shots on goal before the half came to an end, only to see the ball go to wide or over the goal.

"In the second half, we came out more fierce and ready for another solid round. With just two minutes into the half, Kruger pickd up a loose ball and carried it to the goal to find the back of the net and we were up 4-0. Five minutes after that play, Ryan takes a corner kick placing it right in front of the goal box where senior Jon Blanchette strikes it with his head putting us up 5-0. We continued to move the ball well and found ourselves striking the ball again a total of 21 times in the seconf half.

"With only 13 minutes left in the game, Ryan found himself with a nice pass from Wyatt Lawrence to pick up his fifth goal of the game, giving us the 6-0 win. The kids played fantastic, moving the ball up and down the field with a cause, what we have been looking to do all season. I credit the whole team because we win as a whole, but again the defense played exceptional, allowing CORL only have two shots on goal the whole game."

The Bulldogs also claimed the junior varsity match. St. Anthony moves to 9-0-3 on the season, only allowing three goals in goal, with one being a p.k. The Bulldogs will play host to Altamont Indians Tuesday.
