Decatur St. Theresa traveled to Effingham St. Anthony Saturday for a soccer match.

"It was a battle between two of the few remaining undefeated teams in the area," said St. Anthony Coach Eric Morales. "We had a few great looks, seeing an open net a handful of times only to shoot the ball over the goal every time.

"Decatur turned it and attacked harder, finding themselves set up for a nice crack of a shot right above the 18, beating Keeper Alex Beesley right in the top corner, putting yjr, up 1-0 just before the half.

"In the second half it was more of Decatur pressuring our defense, but this time Alex was not giving in. He stepped up big for the us in the second half.  About 20 minutes into the half, Nick Goeckner was fouled about 30 yards outside of scoring distance which set up a free kick for us.  Alex Deters set himself up as he placed the ball where he needed it and lifted that ball soaring into the goal area only to find the head of Donovan Hammer who is just returning from a three week injury and put it in the back of the net to tie up the game 1-1.

"The two teams battled back and forth as the last 15 minutes of the game became a lot more equal and the game endd in a tie. It was a hard fought battle, and the boys played very well. They were a tough, tough team and we were fortunate to come out in a tie.

"Great job to the team," said Morales. "Special mention to Alex Beesley for his big big game."

St. Anthony moves to 7-0-2 on the season and will play host to Breese Central in another tough match Tuesday.
