Effingham High School played host to Mount Vernon in soccer competition Tuesday and the Rams went away with a 3-1 victory.

"Both teams played great tonight," said EHS Coach Lee Althoff. "After our win at Vandalia, the players were eager to get more. But the game ended in Mount Vernon's favor."

The Rams scored with 10 minutes into the half with a goal from Jackson. Mount Vernon then came back with a score from Brooks with 27 minutes.

In the second half, Jackson knocked in his second goal for the Rams. Effingham scored with 38 minutes into the half with a goal from Noah Mulheron.

"The goal came in the later part of the half from a cross from Mulheron that found the back of the net," said Althoff. "Mount Vernon had a show of great sportsmanship during the JV and varsity games. It was a pleasure to play them."

At Carlyle

Effingham St. Anthony High School traveled to Carlyle for another soccer road game Tuesday and claimed a 3-1 victory.

"It was super hot and everyone was already sweaty during warmups," said St. Anthony Coach Eric Morales. "We came out all slow to the ball, but after 10 minutes of trying to find the rhythm, we finally started to click.

"Ryan Kruger, Alex Beesley, Wyatt Lawrence, and Moises Lemus all found looks only to see it go over the top or to the side. Finally Ryan saw an opportunity at the 15 minute mark and beat the defense on the dribble. He left the goalie staring as the ball zipped into the back of the net. Then minutes later, Ryan got another pass and dribbled through the defense and beat the keeper again, finding the back of the net.

"Carlyle come roaring back to catch us unprepared, sliding in to put a goal in the opposite side, leaving the defense and the goalie watching. The half ended with us ahead 2-1.

"We came out the second half with a lot more intensity and began to pepper the goalie, shot after shot. With 15 minutes in, Moises had a breakaway down the left side, beating the defense and chipping the ball over the charging goalie hitting the crossbar bouncing out. Wyatt beat the rushing keeper with a head ball opposite of the keeper and that put us up 3-1.  The game continued with the ball going back and forth with both teams struggling to keep composure from the hot sun. We continued to find the goal but were unable to find the net."

St. Anthony improved to 7-0-1 on the season and travels to Harrisburg Thursday for the last game of a two week road trip.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis scored all four of its goals against Altamont from the 27th to the 36th minute to claim a 4-2 decision over the Indians Tuesday.

After a pretty even match for the first 26 imnutes, the Shoes got goals in the 27th, 29th, 33rd and 36th minutes and it was 4-0 in the blink of an eye. The Indians showed character though with Fernando Romjo scoring in the 39th minute on a ball played forward by Dylan Marble.

Shortly after halftime, Jesus Flores outran the Shoes' defenders to a loose ball and put it past the T-Town keeper to pull the Indians to within 4-2 with 33 minutes to play, but they could get no closer.

Teutopolis had 20 shots, putting 11 on goal. Sam Childerson had seven saves in goal. The Indians took 19 shots, putting nine on goal.

The loss dropped Altamont to 5-2-1 on the season. The Shoes improved to 2-4-1.

In the JV match, the Indians failed to take advantage of two penalty kicks awarded to them, and T-town got a goal seconds before halftime for the match's only score. The 1-0 loss drops the Indians to 1-2.
