Effingham High School played Charleston to a 1-1 tie in soccer competition Tuesday evening.

Charleston's Drew Mejdrich scored first with 11:43 left in the first half and the Trojans took that 1-0 lead into the half.

Effingham came back in the second half to knot the score as Sean Zerrusen hit net unassisted with 23:16 remaining.

Jared Minor had 10 saves for the Hearts while Andrew Tresslar had nine saves for Charleston. Effingham had eight corners and six free kicks in the game.

The Hearts are now 4-7-3 on the season and 1-3-2 in the Apollo Conference. EHS is back in action Thursday at Mattoon with a 4:30 junior varsity start.

At Arthur

Effingham St. Anthony traveled to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond and captured a 3-0 victory.

"Coming off a tie Saturday to Pana, we were ready to get back on track," said Bulldogs Coach Eric Morales. "From the begining of the game to the end, it was all us. We shot over and over constantly giving full pressure to the Knights. With 17 minutes left in the game, Moises Lemus was able to put a loose ball across the middle to find Ryan Kruger to connect in the back of the net. We continued to fire on all cylinders until the half was over, but were unable to find the back of the net.

"The second half was much like the first. We dictated the pace of the game and controlled possession of the ball. Eight minutes into the second half, James Kabbes passed the ball to Ryan on a breakaway, where Ryan was able to find the back of the net for the second time. We had a couple more breakaway situations, but missed the goal just wide those few times. Finally with three minutes in the game, Ryan was able to repay the favor as he found James Kabbes on a breakaway through the middle giving him a nice flick, where James could just finish and find the back of the net, putting us up 3-0.

"ALAH had two last attempts on goal, but were unable to finish. We finished with 20 shots on goal to ALAH's two all game. Nick Grunloh come out with two saves. We played hard and moved the ball very, very well. I was very happy with how they played. This is the first game in 3 1/2 weeks where we have had our full complete team and was at 100%. We have been missing at least two people every week. It's good to have the whole team back and healthy. Now we make our march through the last part of the schedule stronger and more in depth."

St. Anthony is now 14-1-1 and travels to Mattoon Friday and Saturday to play in a tournament.

The Bulldogs junior varsity also came out victorious with a 2-0 win. They are now 7-1.

At Olney

Olney edged Altamont 1-0 in soccer competition Tuesday.

Treston Stanley scored the lone goal of the contest. Olney improves to 6-6-2.
