Updates on Charleston Red and Gold, St. Anthony Invitational

Today is the final day of both the Charleston Red and Gold and the St. Anthony Invitational soccer tournaments.

At Charleston, Effingham lost 2-1 to Olney Friday in the varsity tournament.

Drake Hill scored the lone goal for Effingham off a free kick from Andrew Bingham with 12:30 left in the second period. Jared Minor had eight saves in goal for Effingham.

The loss left Effingham at 1-1-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in their pool.

The soccer Hearts then lost 2-1 to Monticello Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Bingham scored the lone Effingham goal unassisted with 5:50 left in the second half on a left-footed bending shot from 20 yards out. Jared Minor had seven saves in goal for the Hearts, who are now 1-2-1 on the season and finish the tournament 0-2-1 in their pool.

Effingham lost to Olney 4-0 in their JV match to fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in the tournament. They play Monticello at 1:30pm Saturday.

Teutopolis takes on Mattoon at 9am Saturday and plays Centralia at 3pm Saturday.

Alton Marquette 3, Harrisburg 3 (TIE)

In Saturday morning action:

St. Anthony 2, Salem 0 (Ryan Kruger scored both goals for St. Anthony)

Mt. Carmel 2, Altamont 1 (Jesus Flores had the goal for Altamont, with an assist by Christian Freezeland)

Greenville 4, Harrisburg 1
