TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School played host to Salem and edged the Wildcats 3-2 in soccer play Thursday evening.

Salem came out swinging first with a goal in the first half with only four minutes to go.

"Our defense had a communication breakdown and they got caught watching the ball slip through them," said T-town Coach Dustin Jansen. "We had a lot of looks and several shots on goal, but just nothing we could finish."

In the second half, T-town came out playing like a new team. Only 50 seconds in the second half, Kyle Blievernicht had a short pass through the defense to Jordan Niebrugge for a shot on goal. The second goal came when Ryan Westendorf took a shot far outside and Alex Niebrugge came in the back side of the goal to knock it in. The final goal was with 13 minutes left when J. Niebrugge took it head on to the goal with the center Salem defense trying to stop it when it rebounded off the goalie and Niebrugge picked up his own trash and set it back in the corner.

Salem scored its second goal when Seth Belford was coming out at the ball near the six yard line when the ball took a bad bound to the left right around him.

T-town had 19 shots and 11 of them on goal. Belford had two keeper saves.

T-town picked up the junior varsity win 2-0. Drew Kowalski scored with an assist by Mitch Meinhart. Kowalski scored the second goal, again on an assist by Meinhart.

T-town is on the road today to Urbana University High.
