EHS, Altamont Nab Wins, Olney Edges St. A in Soccer

VANDALIA -- Effingham High School had 28 shots on goal and went on to blank Vandalia 6-0 in soccer competition Thursday.

The Hearts' Andrew Bingham started the scoring on a direct free kick with 20:15 into the first half. Noah Mulheron knocked in a goal, assisted by Jacob Gadberry with 25:18. Tyler Katz brought home a goal with 31:19 showing on an assist by Andrew Bingham. Michael Carie finished out the scoring with an unassisted goal at 38:21.

Hendrik Bolter scored an unassisted goal 20 minutes into the second half. Trent Yocum scored the final goal, assisted by Mulheron at 38:28.

The Hearts had 28 shots with 19 of them being saved by Vandalia keeper Blake Torbeck. The Hearts improve to 3-2 on the season and will face St. Anthony Saturday at noon at EHS.

 

At Olney

On a very hot evening, Effingham St. Anthony came into the game striking quickly, putting  in a goal two minutes into the contest. Donovan Hammer conencted with a nice left footed shot that went right through the legs of the keeper. He was assisted by James Kabbes.

That woke Olney up as they came right back at the Bulldogs making it a 2-1 game before half.

"Everyone came out and played well," said St. A Coach Eric Morales. "Olney simply outplayed us tonight. Olney's passing was very good. Great job to Olney on their victory."

The junior varsity also played with Olney taking a 2-1 win. The lone goal for the Bulldogs was Derek Kruger unassisted.

 

At Altamont

Altamont outgunned Newton to the tune of 5-2 to improve to 2-4 on the season.

The Indians took a 3-0 first half lead. Alby Moreno scored the first two goals with Jesus Flores finding net for the third.

In the second half, Flores started off with his second goal of the game, making it 4-0. Newton then tallied back-to-back goals, pulling within 4-2. But Altamont answered back as  Thomas Caravello scored.

Altamont had 25 shots, 15 on goal. Childerson had 10 saves. Newton had 34 shots, 12 on goal with 10 saves.
