EHS Takes Losses at Red & Golf Soccer Tourney

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School's varsity squad fell to Centralia 1-0 in opening round play at the  Charleston Red and Gold Soccer Tournament Thursday.

The lone goal for the Hearts came when Sean Cary scored with 19:15 left in the second half. Both squads had four shots on goal. Effingham's Frank Kasdorf had three keeper saves while Centralia's Nick O'Neill had four.

The Hearts are now 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in pool play at the tourney.

In the junior varsity match, Centralia captured a 5-1 win. The Hearts' lone goal came from Noah Mulheron. Keeper Jared Minor had 23 saves.

The Hearts are back in action Saturday in the tourney with a varsity match against Monticello at 9 a.m. and the JV playing Monticello at 10:30. EHS then faces Decatur MacArthur at 3 p.m. in varsity play and 4:30 in JV action.
