Tyler Vogel, the son of Randy and Jerri Vogel of Springfield and grandson of Bob and Judy Vogel of Altamont, competed on the SASA Spirits Blue team that took part in the U.S. Youth Soccer U17 National President's Cup last weekend.

The team went to Greenville, South Carolina to compete. In the opening match, the SASA Spirits Blue played to a 2-2 tie with the Conneticut Warriors.

In the second match, SASA Spirits won over Cape Coral Cyclones from Florida 3-2. Vogel scored a goal.

The third match went to the Las Vegas Neon 97 Boys, 5-2. Vogel scored his second goal of the tournament.

Then in the championship match, SASA Spirits faced Las Vegas again and fell 2-0.

The team won at Springfield earlier in the season and also claimed the championship at Kansas City. SASA Spirits defeated KCSC Gold 1-0, then blasted BFC/WYSA Select from South Dakota 10-0. In that match, Vogel scored a goal.

The team then beat Crew Juniors Gold of Ohio, 2-0 and the title match went to SASA Spirits 4-3 over United Sky 97 from Kentucky.

Vogel plays the forward position and will graduate from high school in 2015.
