(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) -- Germany has won the World Cup for the fourth time, beating Argentina 1-nil in extra time. The Germans are now tied with Italy for the second-most World Cup titles, one shy of Brazil's record five.

Mario Götze got the lone goal of the match with under 10 minutes left in extra time. The Netherlands beat Brazil 3-0 in the third-place match Saturday.

Scolari Resigns As Brazil's Coach

Brazil is in search for a new national soccer coach. Multiple reports say Luiz Felipe Scolari resigned as the coach following a disappointing result in the World Cup. The host national finished fourth after getting stomped by Germany 7-1 in the semifinals and 3-0 by the Netherlands in the third-place match. He previously guided Brazil to a win over Germany in the 2002 World Cup final.
