Blues Double Up Maple Leafs
(St. Louis, MO) -- David Backes scored twice as the Blues doubled up the Maple Leafs 6-3 at Scottrade Center. Jaden Schwartz tallied a goal and two assists, while Alexander Steen and Chris Stewart had a goal and a helper each for the Blues, who have won three of their last four games. Brian Elliott kicked aside 19 of the 22 shots he faced in the victory. Nazem Kadri, Nikolai Kulemin and James van Riemsdyk all scored for the Leafs, who have dropped three in-a-row and eight-of-10 overall. Jonathan Bernier and James Reimer combined to stop just 30-of-35 shots in the setback.
Blue Jackets Double Up Rangers At MSG
(New York, NY) -- Matt Calvert scored 38 seconds into the game as the Blue Jackets went on to double up the Rangers 4-2 at Madison Square Garden. Artem Anisimov and David Savard scored 2:24 apart later in the first period as Columbus built an early 3-0 lead. Ryan Johansen added his first goal of the year for the Blue Jackets, who have won four-of-five. Curtis McElhinney and Mike McKenna combined to make 32 saves in the victory. Dominic Moore and Dan Girardi both scored for the Blueshirts, who have lost a season-high four straight. Henrik Lundqvist stopped just 10 of the 13 shots he faced in 11-plus minutes of action before giving way to Cam Talbot, who denied 13-of-14 shots the rest of the way.
Flyers Hold Off Canadiens
(Philadelphia, PA) -- Michael Raffl and Claude Giroux each scored a goal to help the Flyers clip the Canadiens, 2-1, at Well Fargo Arena. Jakub Voracek assisted on both goals. Steve Mason stopped 20 shots as Philadelphia snapped a three-game losing streak. Alex Galchenyuk broke up the shutout in the last minute of the third period for Montreal. Carey Price gave up both goals on 27 shots. The Canadiens have dropped two in-a-row.
Lightning Edge Red Wings In Shootout
(Tampa, FL) -- Martin St. Louis scored the lone goal in the sixth round of the shootout as the Lightning edged the Red Wings 2-1 at Tampa Bay Times Forum. Nikita Kucherov scored in regulation for the Bolts, who have picked up at least a point in four straight. Ben Bishop denied 28 shots plus all six shootout attempts for the victory. Kyle Quincey lit the lamp for Detroit, which lost its third in-a-row. Jonas Gustavsson made 26 saves in defeat.
Avs Clip Jets In Shootout
(Winnipeg, Manitoba) -- Matt Duchene and P.A. Parenteau both scored in the shootout as the Avalanche clipped the Jets 4-3 in Winnipeg. Duchene scored twice and added an assist in regulation, while Ryan O'Reilly also lit the lamp for Colorado, which snapped a brief two-game skid. Semyon Varlamov denied 35 shots plus both shootout attempts for the win. Blake Wheeler tallied twice and Michael Frolik also scored for the Jets, who have lost two in-a-row and four-of-six overall. Ondrej Pavelec made 23 saves in defeat.
Predators Sink Stars
(Nashville, TN) -- The Predators scored three unanswered goals to pull out a 3-1 win against the Stars at Bridgestone Arena. Patric Hornqvist and David Legwand both picked up power play goals 28 seconds apart in the final minute of the first period. Paul Gaustad added another midway through the second. Carter Hutton stoned 33-of-34 shots as Nashville won its second consecutive game. Erik Cole gave the Stars a 1-0 lead, assisted by Alex Chiasson. Kari Lehtonen gave up all three goals on 30 shots. Dallas has dropped three of four.
Flames Sink Hurricanes In OT
(Calgary, Alberta) -- Chris Butler scored with four seconds left in the overtime session to give the Flames a 2-1 win over the Hurricanes at the Saddledome. Brian McGrattan hit the back of the net for the first time this year in the first period for Calgary, which moved to 12-15-4. Karri Ramo kicked away 29 shots. Jeff Skinner scored the lone goal for Carolina from Tuomo Ruutu and Eric Staal. Justin Peters gave up both scores on 30 shots. The Hurricanes lost their third straight to fall to 13-13-7.
Coyotes Cruise Past Isles
(Glendale, AZ) -- Rob Klinkhammer tallied two goals and an assist as the Coyotes cruised past the Islanders 6-3 at Jobing.com Arena. Mikkel Boedker also scored twice, while Mike Ribeiro had a goal and two helpers for the 'Yotes, who have won two in-a-row for the first time since early November. Mike Smith made 21 saves in the victory. Eric Boulton, John Tavares and Kyle Okposo all scored for New York, which has lost 11 of its last 12 games. Kevin Poulin was lit up for all six goals on 37 shots in defeat.
Bruins Edge Oilers In Edmonton
(Edmonton, Alberta) -- Jarome Iginla scored twice to lead the Bruins past the Oilers 4-2 at Rexall Place. Dennis Seidenberg and Brad Marchand also lit the lamp in the three-goal first period for Boston, which has won four straight and six of its last seven overall. Chad Johnson made 39 saves in the victory. David Perron scored twice in the second period for the Oilers, who have alternated wins and losses over their last 10 games. Devan Dubnyk allowed three goals on 18 shots before being pulled at the end of the first period. Jason LaBarbera denied all 12 shots the rest of the way.
Sharks Skate Past Wild
