Aqua's Bud Wins Big Ten Colt Stakes Race At Farmer City

FARMER CITY -- Aqua's Bud, owned by Lacy Longnecker-Motch of Effingham and Larry Longnecker of Sumner, won the Illinois Big Ten Colt Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings Thursday evening at the Farmer City Fair. 

Trained and driven by Effingham's Darla Lohman, Aqua's Bud got the mile in 2:07.4 in winning his third in a row on the Big Ten circuit. The time was the fastest for his age, gait, and sex in the Big Ten this year, and it marked the latest step in his quest to repeat the Big Ten championship which he won in 2021 as a two-year-old. 

In other action, Sunny Sasha made her first start in nearly two years a winning one, capturing a division of the Free For All Trot in 2:06 for owners Charles Doehring of Brownstown and Cary Doehring of Springfield. A homebred for the Doehring Stable, Sunny Sasha was making her first appearance at the races since August 30, 2020.
