Kings Grab Early Lead

The Los Angeles Kings are off to a good start in its conference semifinal series. The defending Stanley Cup champion Kings bested the San Jose Sharks 2-0 at home. Tonight, the Chicago Blackhawks start their series against the Detroit Red Wings.

 

Penguins Roll Past Senators

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Chris Kunitz and Evgeni Malkin each had a goal and an assist to power the Penguins in a 4-1 victory over the Senators in Game One of their Eastern Conference semifinal series. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby says they have to keep their power play rolling.

Paul Martin and Pascal Dupuis also scored for Pittsburgh, which was 2-for-4 on the power play. Tomas Vokoun made 35 saves for the victory. Colin Greening scored Ottawa's lone goal to tie the game at one early in the first. Craig Anderson stopped 26 shots in defeat. Pittsburgh will host Game Two of the best-of-seven set Friday.


Stars Fire Coach Gulutzan, Assistant Jerrard

(Frisco, TX) -- Glen Gulutzan is out as head coach of the Dallas Stars. He and assistant Paul Jerrard have both been fired. The Stars missed the playoffs this season after finishing 22-22-and-4.  Gulutzan was in his second season with Dallas. He went 42-35-5 in his first year. Assistant Curt Fraser and goalie coach Mike Valley will stay on.
