FAIRFIELD -- A pair of reigning Illinois Big Ten Colt Stakes champions with Effingham County connections scored wins Sunday afternoon in harness racing action at the Wayne County Fair, led by a three-year-old pacing filly from the barn of Jacob Roedl of Edgewood.

Aniemaybombay, owned and trained by Roedl, rallied down the stretch to edge Mommy Said Nonono by a neck to capture the Big Ten Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies, as Cornelius Cavett had the winning drive. Named the Big Ten's champion juvenile pacing filly last season, Aniemaybombay notched her first victory of the 2022 campaign.

Later in the day, Aqua's Bud won the Big Ten Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings, drawing clear by 21 lengths for trainer-driver Darla Lohman of Effingham. Owned by Larry Longnecker of Sumner and Lacy Longnecker-Motch of Effingham, Aqua's Bud earned accolades as the Big Ten's champion juvenile trotter last year in the colt and gelding division.

Also on Sunday, Fox Valley Cairo won a race for trotters at Hawthorne Racecourse near Chicago for an ownership group which includes Dean Biggs of Altamont. Dispatched as the 1-9 favorite, the reigning Illinois-bred champion covered the one-mile distance in 1:57.2 and pushed his career bankroll to $108,000.
