Mike Grier was introduced by the San Jose Sharks as their new general manager Tuesday, making him the first Black GM in NHL history.

Grier played in the NHL for 14 seasons, and  since his 2011 retirement, he’s been a scout, an assistant coach with the New Jersey Devils, and most recently, the hockey operations advisor for the New York Rangers. Doug Wilson left as the Sharks general manager in April for health reasons.
