The Colorado Avalanche beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 Sunday night to win the Stanley Cup, toppling the two-time defending champions 4 games to 2 for their first NHL championship since 2001.

Nathan Mackinnon and Artturi Lehkonen scored for Colorado, both in the second period. Colorado defenseman Cale Makar was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the postseason’s most valuable player.
