The 28th Annual Carl P. Koerner, Jr. Memorial Sports Spectacular Thursday was one of the most successful yet.

The golf outing and related fundraising activities generated $45,500 each for the Effingham Sportsbackers and the St. Anthony Booster Club.

The event has raised more than $1 million for the two sports programs through the years.

As a special feature, the event recognized Effingham High School Coach Jeff Schafer and St. Anthony High School Coach Phil Zaccari for their introductions into the Hall of Fame this past year. Schafer was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, while Zaccari was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame.

The crowd was also entertained by retired high school basketball coach Doug Mammoser, who shared stories of his experiences through the years.
