Altamont horseman Kyle Husted suffered a setback Saturday night at Hawthorne Race Course when even-money favorite Lousrolando broke stride and finished off the board in the $118,000 Kadabra championship for two-year-old trotters. But one hour later, Husted was feeling much better.

Fox Valley Exploit, dispatched as the even-money favorite for Husted and co-owner David Brigham, rallied from deep in the pack and drew clear in the stretch to win the $108,000 Plum Peachy final for Illinois-bred three-year-old pacing fillies in 1:53.2. Winning for the 13th time in 18 career starts, the $22,000 yearling purchase pushed her career bankroll to nearly $215,000 and kept herself in contention for Illinois Harness Horse of the Year honors. Trained and driven by Husted, the filly won on Hawthorne's Illinois Night of Champions program for the second straight year.

Loyz Say When, owned by Jackson Loy of Beecher City, finished third in the Kadabra at odds of 13-1, while 62-1 long shot Desert Sheik, owned by a partnership which includes Dean Biggs of Altamont, finished fourth in the $109,000 Erwin F. Dygert final. Emsroscopcoletrain, at 36-1, finished fourth in the Kadabra for owner Jacob Roedl of Edgewood.

Horses owned by residents of Effingham County collected a total of $86,000 in purse money on the near million-dollar program.

Other area connections included Altamont native Richard Finn driving 111-1 long shot Castielle to a third-place finish behind Fox Valley Exploit, while Altamont's Fair Meadow Farm raised and sold the winners of both the $80,000 Incredible Tillie final for two-year-old pacing fillies and the $71,000 Incredible Finale championship for freshman pacing colts.
