The Washington Capitals hired Peter Laviolette as their new head coach Tuesday. He's taking over after first-time head coach Todd Reirden was fired after back-to-back first-round playoff defeats. Laviolette, who won the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006, was fired by the Nashville Predators in January after five-and-a-half seasons.
