Two horses trained by two-time Triple Crown-winning trainer Bob Baffert have tested positive for a banned substance, according to reports Tuesday. They were positive for lidocaine, a regulated anesthetic widely used in equine medicine.

The ‘New York Times’ said one of them was Charlatan, a top contender for the Belmont Stakes, which will open the Triple Crown series on June 20 because of a pandemic-shuffled schedule. Baffert has asked for the samples to be tested again.
