The Salem School Board met Tuesday evening and announced invitations have been extended to five schools to compete in the Cahokia Conference.

Invitations went out to Chester, Dupo, East Alton-Wood River, Okawville and Roxana. Earlier in the year, Carlyle announced they would be leaving the conference in football.

The conference could become a three division conference with 18 teams competing in small, medium and large divisions. In the large division would be Breese Central, Columbia, East Alton-Wood River, Freeburg, Roxana and Salem. The medium division would be Carlyle, Chester, Okawville, Red Bud, Sparta and Wesclin. In the small division would be Dupo, Lebanon, Marissa, New Athens, Steeleville and Valmeyer.

Some teams don't have certain sports but teams will be shuffled into divisions that play that sport.

Now, the five schools that were offered invitations will have to take that offer back to their school boards for a vote.
