The doubles team of Joe Garland and Hadley Majors won the UDisc Amateur Matchplay Championships Sunday to qualify for National competition in September. The disc golf qualifier was held at Community Park in Effingham.

The Effingham-based team shot -13 to defeat James Taylor and Ethan Simmons of Moweaqua by two strokes. Garland and Majors had defeated Gary Welton and Marty Ellison of Effingham to win their semifinal match Sunday morning before posting the Sunday afternoon win over Taylor and Simmons. Taylor and Simmons had defeated Mark Jones and Isaac McDonald of Effingham to win the other semifinal match and reach the finals.

Jones and McDonald defeated Welton and Ellison for third place honors.

The victory qualifies Garland and Majors as one of three teams to represent Illinois in the National Amateur Matchplay Doubles Championships, to be held the weekend of September 27 in Emporia, Kansas.
