The Effingham St. Anthony High School girls bowling team concluded its first season by placing 18th in the IHSA Collinsville Sectional Saturday.

"Being mostly underclassmen, our big goal was not to finish last at sectional and we did that," said Coach Phil Zaccari. "All coaches hope their teams do their best at the end of the season, this team did that. Every one of our players were over their season average.

"Hayley Koester had a personal best game of 146 on her way to her best tournament as she was 190 pins over average. Fellow freshman, Raven Rincker, was 162 points over average. Senior Kassy Dammernan was her steady self and led the team as she has all year.

"I am so proud of how all these young women committed to this team and worked to improve as well as have a lot of fun along the way. It definitely showed as we were 700 pins better than our first tournament back in November.

"We would like to thank the K-Bowl and their staff for allowing us to practice and host our matches there. We finish the season on an upside and with the core of our team being underclassmen, the future does look hopeful. We would like to thank our seniors, Kassy Dammerman and Erin Goeckner, who provided great leadership with our young squad. They will be greatly missed."
