EHS' Tyler Homann Headed To State In Swimming

Effingham High School's Tyler Homann will be headed to state in the 100 yard breaststroke after competing at the Champaign Centennial Swimming Sectional Saturday.

Homann won with a time of 1:01.24 and will be competing at the State Meet at Winnetka New Trier Friday and Saturday.

Homann, a senior, also competed in the 200 yard freestyle where he finished sixth with a time of 1:52.32. He is the first-ever boys Effingham swimmer to reach the state.

Effingham St. Anthony's Gavin Braunecker just missed in his bid to compete at state. Braunecker finished second in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 53.97.

Braunecker also competed in the 200 yard IM where he finished fourth with a time of 2:03.35.

Effingham's Austin Huebner competed in the 100 yard backstroke and finished 10th in 1:06.07. He took an 11th place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:13.89.

Altamont and Teutopolis had swimmers competing. Altamont's Jacob Crow swam in the 50 yard freestyle where he finished 18th with a time of 28.97. He also took part in the 100 yard freestyle and finished 20th in 1:09.19.

Also competing for the Indians was Hayden Voelker who finished 24th in the 50 yard freestyle in 32.06. Voelker took part in the 100 yard breaststroke and captured 19th place in 1:25.93.

T-town's Ian Copple captured a fourth place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:04.20. Copple took seventh in the 100 yard freestyle in 52.76.

Champaign Central won the team championship with 289 points followed by Champaign Centennial 224, Mahomet-Seymour 135, Urbana 133, Sullivan 112, Lincoln 67, Charleston 60, Clinton 53, DuQuoin 44, Effingham 30, Olney 25, Bismarck-Henning 25, Mattoon 24, Effingham St. Anthony 24, Teutopolis 18, Carbondale 17, Centralia 10, Catlin 6, Mount Carmel 6, Urbana University 6, Salem 3, Herrin 2,  Sesser-Valier 1 and Monticello 1
