Cumberland Wrestlers End Stay at State Tourney

Cumberland High School's Konnir Hinz stayed in the heat of the wrestling wars at the Class 7-1A State Wrestling Championship but fell just short of placing.

Hinz won his opening match in the 145 pound division by downing Lena-Winslow's Peyton Keeffer with a fal in 6:32. He then lost to Coal City's Daniel Jezik in a 5-4 decision. That dropped him into the wrestlebacks where he won over Knoxville's Rueben Canto on a forfeit. He then fell to Fairbury Prairie Central's Simon Schuler in a 6-3 decision.

Teammate Michael Carpenter lost his opening match to Morrison's Joe Eads with a fall in :32. He dropped into the wrestlebacks where he fell to T.J. Jezik in a 9-8 decision.

Tristan Overvig lost his opening match to Savanna West Carroll's Nate Schultz with a fall in 3:28. Overvig did not make the wrestlebacks.
