St. Anthony Gets Scholastic Bowl Season Underway

St. Anthony Junior High School got its Scholastic Bowl season underway with a triangular match with Effingham and Mattoon, held at Mattoon on Thursday, February 9.

The varsity team split, with Effingham winning game one with 310 points to St. Anthony’s 30.  The second game went to St. Anthony with a close 115-110 victory over Mattoon.  

The junior varsity team also split.  Effingham narrowly defeated St. Anthony, 150-140.  St. Anthony won game two, defeating Mattoon, 110-90.

Scholastic Bowl participants for St. Anthony this year are eighth-graders Hanna DiBenedetto, Sharon Dong, Loralai Gilpin, Kate Hartke, Amel Kohli, Stella Passalacqua, Taylor Ritz, Payton Sehy, Olivia Spraul, Tom Unkraut, and Will Unkraut; seventh-graders Mason Bloemer, Elizabeth Kabbes, Bridget Sudkamp, and Ellie Wegman and sixth-grader Ashley Dorris.

Official scorekeeper for the team is eighth-grader Jasmine Meyer.  The St. Anthony team is coached by Mrs. Jan Cunningham and Mrs. Roberta Meyer.
