SPRINGFIELD -- Two area horses advanced at the Illinois State Fair Harness Racing and will be competing in $35,000 finals next week.
Southern Party, a filly trained by Altamont's Ray Hanna, won a prep race in the two-year-old pace championship. Southern Party will compete in the $35,000 final this coming Thursday.
Greg and Flex, named after XEF/KJ Country's George Flexter and Greg Sapp, closed stoutly to finish third in an elimination of the two-year-old colt pace. That qualified him for the $35,000 race for his division this coming Thursday.
