A Frenchman will don the coveted yellow jersey on Bastille Day. Tony Gallopin is the new overall leader of the Tour de France after Sunday's Stage 9, a 170- kilometer trek from Gerardmer to Mulhouse. German Tony Martin won the stage with a dominating performance. He broke ahead early and cruised comfortably to the finish line, crossing in a time of 4 hours, 9 minutes and 34 seconds.

Gallopin was in a group of 18 riders who finished 2:45 behind Martin. Italian Vincenzo Nibali had worn yellow since winning Stage 2. He  was 7:46 off Martin's pace and is now second overall, 1:34 behind Gallopin.

Two-time Tour winner Alberto Contador is 4:08 behind Gallopin in ninth place after being credited with the same time as Nibali Sunday. The stage featured six climbs, including a Category 1 ascent up Le Markstein near the end, and concluded with a downhill finish.
