Bass Fishing State Finals Underway at Carlyle Lake

The IHSA State Bass Fishing Tournament is underway at Carlyle Lake.

Two area teams are competing this year.

South Central is back after posting its second consecutive sectional championship at Forbes Lake near Kinmundy.  Gary Payne is the driver for the team, South Central's #2 team, which consists of Dalton Courson, Gunner Huddlestun, Dalton Hayes and Trevor Butts.

Newton's #1 team finished third at the South Central Sectional.  Cole Jesek is the driver for the team, which includes Chris Pitcher, Preston Street and John Grunloh.

Pitcher had the big bass of the day at the sectional.  The fish weighed 5.76 pounds.  

South Central won the sectional by catching 12.14 pounds of bass.  Robinson #1 was second with 11.18 pounds of bass, and Newton #1 was third with 10.02 pounds caught.

Teutopolis' #1 team finished ninth with 4.5 pounds of bass landed, Teutopolis' #2 team finished 11th with 3.88 pounds caught, St. Anthony's #2 team finished 12th with 3.1 pounds, Newton's #2 team finished 13th with 2.3 pounds, and South Central's #1 team finished 15th with 1.6 pounds caught.
