Predators Blank Blackhawks
(Chicago, IL) -- Pekka Rinne posted 29 saves to help the Predators blank the Blackhawks 2-0 in Chicago. It's the first shutout of the year and the 31st of his career. Mike Fisher and Gabriel Bourque each scored for Nashville, which has won two straight. Corey Crawford stopped 15 shots for Chicago, which has lost four of its last seven games. The teams were 0-7 on the power play.
Blues Down Penguins
(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Brian Elliott denied 33 shots for his fourth shutout of the season as the Blues blanked the Penguins 1-0 at CONSOL Energy Center. It was also Elliott's 16th whitewash with the Blues, tying him with Hall of Famer Glenn Hall for second on the club's all-time list. David Backes scored the lone goal midway through the third period for St. Louis, which moved into a tie with idle Boston for the most points in the NHL with 103. St. Louis also clinched the first postseason spot in the Western Conference. Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves for the Pens, who have lost four-of-six.
Isles Beat Blue Jackets
(Uniondale, NY) -- Evgeni Nabokov made 41 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Islanders blanked the Blue Jackets 2-0 at Nassau Coliseum. Cal Clutterbuck and Travis Hamonic both scored for the Isles, who finished 2-2 on their four-game homestand. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 30 shots for Columbus, which has lost two in-a-row.
Devils Hold Off Maple Leafs
(Newark, NJ) -- The Devils built a three-goal lead and held on for a 3-2 win over the Maple Leafs at the Prudential Center. Damien Brunner scored in the first before Patrik Elias and Jon Merrill lit the lamp seconds apart early in the second period for New Jersey. Cory Schneider stopped 21 shots as the Devils won their second in three games. Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel each scored for Toronto while James Reimer was lit up for three goals on just 10 shots. Drew MacIntyre made 14 saves the rest of the way as the Leafs lost their fifth straight and are clinging to the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference with 80 points.
Wild Clip Red Wings In OT
(Detroit, MI) -- Matt Moulson tipped one past Jimmy Howard in overtime to send the Wild to a 4-3 win over the Red Wings in Detroit. Charlie Coyle and Zach Parise scored in the third period for Minnesota while Jason Pominville had a second-period tally. Mikko Koivu netted two assists for the Wild while Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 13 shots. Minnesota had lost seven out of nine prior to the win. Gustav Nyquist scored twice in the first period for Detroit while Tomas Tatar tied the game midway through the third with his 16th goal. Howard made 21 saves as the Wings saw a three-game win streak end and are clinging to a Wild Card spot in the East, tied with Toronto at the 80-point mark.
Ducks Drop Panthers
(Anaheim, CA) -- Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry each had a goal and two assists as the Ducks dismissed the Panthers 6-2 in Anaheim. Patrick Maroon and Teemu Selanne both notched a goal and a helper for Anaheim, which has won three of five. Jonas Hiller stopped 28 shots in the win. Dan Ellis made 34 stops in the setback. Jimmy Hayes and Tomas Fleischmann scored for Florida, which has lost three in-a-row.
