Suzette Brumleve Memorial Effingham Public Library Hosts Ripples of Kindness Artwork

Suzette Brumleve Memorial Effingham Public Library is excited to host “Ripples of Kindness” artwork on the north wall of the first floor until Thursday, May 13.

The Ripples of Kindness project was funded by the Black Voices Matter grant from library vendor, Beanstack, and was created to give local libraries the chance to lift up black voices in their communities.

Vicki Funneman, Programming Coordinator, shared:  “Our library chose to use the book, Each Kindness, by black author, Jacqueline Woodson.  It shares a poignant story of just how a small act of kindness shared or withheld makes a lasting difference.”

The library collaborated with Unit 40 Southside teachers, Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Jones and Ms. Tabbert and ASPIRE teacher, Ms. Nelson.  These teachers shared the book with students and then students created 4”X4” art canvases that depicted their visions of kindness and the ripple effect that can be felt.

Families of students are invited to stop by the library and visit the display.

Teachers of any age group are welcome to request the “Ripples of Kindness” kit that the library created to support this project.  The kit has a copy of the book as well as supplies and ideas for making “ripples of kindness” relevant to all age groups.
