Community Area Service Providers to Meet

Focus on Effingham County Public Transportation at CASP (Community Area Service Providers) Monthly Meeting 

Community Area Service Providers met on Tuesday, January 9 in the University of Illinois Extension Office Basement Meeting Room.  23 attendees from various nonprofits and service organizations throughout East Central Illinois shared updates during this professional networking opportunity.

Susan Wilson, Literacy Coordinator for CEFS and President of CASP, opened the meeting and welcomed featured organization Effingham County Public Transportation or Central Illinois Public Transit.  Nathan Nichols and Melissa Schilling, Mobility Managers, were presented for the organization.

ECPT and CIPT have the mission to provide increased access to employment, education, medical and social activities while providing safe, affordable and efficient transportation for all. Federally grant funded ECPT/CIPT provide door to door service in fully ADA accessible vehicles.

Anyone can utilize the service by calling 855 755 2478 Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. to speak to a dispatcher and making arrangements for pick up.  If the office is closed, a message can be left. 

Transportation hours for those in Effingham County are Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Transportation for hours for those in Clay and Fayette Counties are Monday through Friday6 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Best practice for riders includes giving dispatchers 24 hour notice to make arrangements although same day service may be available if space and time allow.

In –County Transports for adults cost $3 per one-way trip, children ages 6 to 12 can ride for $2 while those 5 and under can ride free with a paying adult.  There are also monthly passes for In-County and Existing Service Routes are $35 and disability passes are $15.

ECPT/CIPT managers are willing to present to any organization or group of people to spread awareness of how ECPT/CIPT can assist people with their transportation needs.

The February meeting of CASP is set for Noon on Tuesday, February 6 with guest speaker, Tena Westendorf with Heartland Human Services.
