Hearts Tied For Second, Bulldogs Sixth In Golf Competitions

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham tied for second place in the Taylorville Boys Golf Invitational Saturday after taking first place Friday in the Apollo Conference Tourney.

The Hearts came back from winning Friday to tally 324 and tie Chatham Glenwood for second place behind champion Maroa-Forsyth with a 313 at Lakeshore Golf Course Saturday.

Following the top two were Springfield 331, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 334, Williamsville 346, Rochester 353, Taylorville 361, Hillsboro 363, Jacksonville 374 and Springfield Southeast 440.

Medalist was Effingham's Jake Linders with a 72. Also scoring for the Hearts were Jackson Wendling 77, Sean Sandifer 86 and Reed Schafer 89. Non-counting scores were Brandon Dahnke 93, Michael Woltman 96 and Matt Linders 97.

"Jake continued his steller play, earning medalist honors and Jackson tied for fifth. Now it is show time and our kids are looking forward to it."

The Hearts are back in action in the Class 2A Mount Vernon Regional Tuesday against teams from Breese Central, Centralia, Greenville, Highland, Hillsboro, Mount Vernon, Olney, Salem and Troy Triad at 9 a.m.

 

At Bloomington

Effingham St. Anthony took part in the Bloomington Freshman/Sophomore 14 Holer Saturday at Highland Park.

Normal University High won the meet with 177 followed by Peoria Notre Dame 186, Normal Community No. 1 202, Lockport No. 1 206, Mattoon 218, St. Anthony 222, Normal Community No. 2 228, Rantoul/Paxton-Buckley-Loda 230, Bloomington No. 1 234, Lockport No. 2 238, Normal Community No. 3 239, Bloomington No. 2 249 and Bloomington No. 3 272.

Normal U-High's Chris Burwell was the medalist with a 56. Scoring for St. Anthony were Jacob Schmidt 69, Ethan Greene 75, Niko Dust 78 and Trey Koester 92.

The St. Anthony varsity team will be back in action Tuesday in its own Class 1A regional, playing host to Altamont, Teutopolis, Red Hill (Bridgeport), Cisne, Fairfield, Flora, Lawenceville, Oblong, Pana, Robinson and Wayne City.
