Effingham St. Anthony High School claimed a boys varsity golf victory over Champaign St. Thomas More Tuesday at the Effingham Country Club.

The Bulldogs tallied a 152 as Garrett Hixenbaugh took medalist honors with a 34 followed by teammate Connor Greene with a 36. Also scoring were Nick Wortman 41 and Kyle Britton 41. Non-scorers were Nate Schmidt 41, Sam Wortman 42, Jeff Niebrugge 45 and Jared Hutchison 46.

Scoring for St. Thomas More were Jesse Dankle 39, Chris Tate 41, Wes Kramer 41 and Tyler Vodacek 42. Non-scorers were John Boyer 42, Chandler Bollen 46 and Ian Niccum 54.

 

At Taylorville

The Effingham boys team claimed second place in a four-team golf match at Lake Shore Golf Course Tuesday.

Mount Zion was the winner with a 163 followed by Effingham 166, Taylorville 174 and Shelbyville 187. Co-medalists were Effingham's Jackson Wendling and Mount Zion's Danny Miller with a 37 each.

"Jackson continued his solid play, medaling with a 37," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "He is really starting to play well. Callaway and Sean both got off to rocky starts but held their rounds together to get something out of them. We just needed one more decent score. We just have to keep maturing and keep ironing the little intangibles and we will have a chance to be a tough team to beat."

Effingham improved to 3-2 while Mount Zion is 6-3, Taylorville 8-7 and Shelbyville 9-13.

At Pana

Teutopolis claimed a victory over host Pana, 165-194 in varsity action at Oak Terrace Golf Course. Medalist was T-town's Kyle Brumleve with a 39.

Also scoring for the Wooden Shoes were Chad Zerrusen 40, Justin Kowalski 43 and Evan Schlink 43. Non-scorers were Ryan Sandschafer 44 and Christian Deters 46.

Scoring for Pana were Kody Bland 42, Dylan Moon 48, Jim LaMarche 52 and Blake Ade 52. Non-scorers were Sheldon Grimes 56 and Weber Jacobs 62.

The junior varsity squads played but Pana did not have enough for a team score. Scoring for T-town were Brayden Bushue 48, Colt Borries 52, Kyle Wente 57 and Jason Westendorf 61. Scoring for Pana were Michael Blacker 53, Case Hudlin 62 and Dagon Mizvor 62.

At Effingham

Mattoon came calling at the Effingham Country Club and claimed a 200-224 girls victory over the Hearts.

The Green Wave's Taylor Beason was medalist with a 43. Also scoring were Katie Holsapple 49, Lauren Spain 50 and Whitney Meeker 58. Non-scorers were Kaylee Nottmeyer 63 and Melanie Bullock 70.

Scoring for the Hearts were Morgan Wilson 46, Alex Brummer 54, Hope Collier 56 and Madison Weis 68.
