The St. Anthony Bulldogs finished third at the Gary Saunders Invitational at Macomb Country Club on Saturday.

Macomb and Galesburg each finished with a 321 total, with Macomb winning the tournament when they went to the fifth score.  St. Anthony finished at 326, good for third place in the 13-team event.  Other competitors in order of finish were Davenport Assumption, Normal U High, Petersburg Porta, Bloomington, Pleasant Plains, Monmouth-Roseville, Rockford Alleman, Olympia, Urbana and Canton.

Garrett Hixenbaugh of St. Anthony finished eighth overall with a 79.  Also for St. Anthony: Connor Greene 81, Nick Wortman 82, Sam Wortman 84, Jeff Niebrugge 93, and Jared Hutchison 94.

St. Anthony Coach Phil Zaccari said, "The Macomb Country Club is a course that you need to play a couple of times.  Even though we had a strategy, you still need to see what the notes mean; four of our players were not really familiar with the nuances of the layout so we took some extra strokes here and there.  The biggest thing is our team is learning how to grind out rounds and never give up.  We battled and came home with the third place trophy.  We had too many of those "others" yet we were still in the hunt."

St. Anthony is back in action today at the John Macek Invitational in Champaign.
