Effingham St. Anthony and Eastern Illinois graduate Michael Imburgia finished second in the Championship Flight of the Coles County Amateur Golf Tournament during the weekend.

A scorecard playoff from Saturday's first round came about because Imburgia and Mattoon's Derek Meinhart both shot a 7-under-par 65 at Meadowview Golf Course. Sunday's final round at Mattoon Golf & Country Club was rained out.

Imburgia, who claimed the IHSA state title in 2001 and 2002 and competed for Eastern Illinois University, led by two strokes with six holes done in Sunday's competition but rain put a halt to the rest of the tournament and the winner was determined by going back to Saturday play.

Finishing behind the pair in the Championship Flight were Greg Rothrock 72, Blake Hilliard 73 and Austin Warrem 73. In B Flight, Adam Schrock won with an 80 followed by Nick Heller 80, John Merryman 80 and Todd Hood 80. In C Flight, Luke Owen won with 85 followed by Myron Salmon 85, Rod Maxwell 85, Ron Hungler 85 and Carl Dean 85.

In D Flight, Roger Peterson won with 89 followed by Craig Dixon 89, Benji Easter 89, Darren Poorman 89 and Justin Burrell 90. In Senior Flight, Steve Epperson won with 75 followed by Glen Wilde 75, Jerry Myerscough 78, Tom Himes 82 and Bill Vaught 85.
