Hearts Nab Boys, Girls Golf Meet Wins

SULLIVAN -- Effingham High School claimed both the boys and girls victories over host Sullivan in golf action Wednesday.

The girls were 187-203 winners. Scoring for the Hearts were Marah Kirk and Anna Hirtzel with a 46 each. They tied with Sullivan's Shae Ellis for medalist honors. Also scoring for the Hearts were Elena Niebrugge 47 and Ella Niebrugge 48. Also competing were Ella Tuman 48 and Marissa Allie 55. Natalie Armstrong had a 51, MaKenna Mayhood a 52 and Emilie Vincent a 72.

Scoring for Sullivan were Ellis 46, Lara Herschberger 50, Devon Richardson 53 and Ruby Haegen 54. Non-counters were Gabby Penberthy 59 and Hannah Righter 62.

In the boys meet, Effingham was a 175-185 winner. 

Sullivan's Will Haegen and B. Bushue shot a 37 each for medalist honors. But the Hearts pulled out the victory despite those two top scorers for the Redskins.

The Hearts were led by Brody Boehm with a 40 and Colby Haynes, David Splechter and Cannon Bockhorn, each with a 45. Non-counters were Evan Pryor 47 and Payden Schneider 54.

Other Sullivan scorers were Dawson Foster 53 and Tristan Ruppert 58. Non-counter was Ethan Smith 65.

Effingham's junior varsity scores were Blayne Pals 49, Ross Schaefer 49, Kaden Field 51, KC Kuhlman 52, Preston Siner 55 and Gunnar Heil 72.
